Friday was apartment hunting day. First, Greg had another meeting, so I found a sunny spot on campus to read for a while.
We saw 3 apartment complexes, and a few apartments in each one. Here are a couple of pictures from my favorite one. I think it’s Greg’s favorite too.
The kitchen is small, but it opens right into the living room, so it doesn’t feel super stuffy and cramped like our current kitchen. There’s also a decent amount of storage. To the right of this picture, there are two really large cabinets and a small dining area. Also, there’s a dishwasher.
The patio is pretty large, and there’s a door leading our from the living room, as well as sliding glass doors leading out from the bedroom. Definitely enough space for some herbs. Behind that door, there’s a storage space.
View from the patio.
There’s a pool and a hot tub, as well as two fitness centers. This apartment doesn’t have laundry in the unit (all the other ones did), but it did have lovely laundry facilities. The laundry room is attached to the fitness center, so I could workout and do laundry at the same time. I love multitasking. Also, you pay for laundry with a card rather than quarters. HUGE plus.
The complex is really clean and well taken care of. The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet, the bus stops for city buses and the shuttle to UCSD are basically right outside (though it’s only about a 15 minute walk to the campus), and there are at least 3 grocery stores within walking distance.
So, although the apartment is a tiny bit smaller than the other ones we looked at and laundry is not in the unit, I think it’s nicer than the other places we looked at, and it seems like it’ll be at least a bit less expensive. Right now, this is my top choice. We’ll see how it goes. They didn’t have availability for August yet, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
Family, don’t worry. There are many more pictures of this apartment and the other places we looked at.
